An open letter to the fans from Gene Turnbow, Krypton Radio’s founder

It’s happened again: Krypton Radio is Editor’s Pick on Windows Media Guide! The first time this happened was March of 2014. Four stations are chosen each week, and that week one of the other picks was BBC One, so we considered ourselves in good company. To say we were thrilled is an understatement.

Our plucky little station has now won this accolade for the fourth time in less than two years.

Since we started Krypton Radio in 2009, we have come a very long way, and it’s all thanks to you for reading our web site and listening to our station on your web browsers, and via the free apps for every smart phone and tablet.

Krypton Radio is now heard all over the globe. Science fiction fans everywhere are making it a point to make Krypton Radio the soundtrack to their daily lives. We have some pretty dedicated fans now, too – many of them say that we are the first web site they go to for geek news, and many more just turn on Krypton Radio and leave it there, sometimes for days on end. I’ve never heard of an internet radio station with this kind of listener loyalty, and I have to say I’m humbled by this and a little in awe.

Krypton Radio is Sci-Fi for your Wi-Fi, but it doesn’t stop there. In the coming months, we’ll have even more exciting announcements, so stay with us. You won’t want to miss a thing.

Thank you for being a part of this grand experiment. The best, as they say, is yet to come!

About Krypton Radio

Krypton Radio Launches Stellar New Programming Lineup for Star Wars Day

The “Sci-Fi for your WiFi” internet radio station adds multiple new shows,

including popular DOCKING BAY 94 with Shawn “Obi-Shawn” Crosby,

the Planetary Society’s PLANETARY RADIO and more.

LOS ANGELES – May 4th, 2015: Krypton Radio, the first and most popular fan and geek oriented internet radio station on the planet, has announced a new line up sure to please its fervent and growing audience base. Station founder Gene Turnbow announced the new slate of science fiction programming today in conjunction with International Star Wars Day.

Leading off is the wildly popular Star Wars-themed DOCKING BAY 94, hosted by Shawn “Obi-Shawn” Crosby, and featuring co-hosts Jeff “Solo” Donoho and Joe “The Jedi” Pavlenko. A popular fixture at comic and sci-fi conventions, Obi-Shawn and his famous custom car, the “Z-Wing,” appear at roughly 160 charities a year across the US. Crosby is officially sanctioned by Lucasfilm for his portrayal of the iconic Jedi knight Obi-wan Kenobi. Docking Bay 94 will air Thursday evenings in the 7 pm to 9 pm PST time slot.

Also joining the line up is the acclaimed science program PLANETARY RADIO, produced by the Planetary Society, hosted by Mat Kaplan, and featuring his colleagues from the society: Bill Nye the Science Guy, Bruce Betts and Emily Lakdawalla. Each week, Planetary Radio visits with a scientist, engineer, project manager, astronaut, advocate or writer who provides a unique and exciting perspective on the exploration of our solar system and beyond.

COSPLAY V is a brand new segment on the actual mechanics of making costumes, with seasoned costumer and cosplayer Peggy Dolan Viney hosting. Unique to Krypton Radio, this show offers tricks and tips helpful for beginners and masters alike. Cosplay V airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m. PST, (with a re-air of that day’s show at 1 a.m).

Rounding out the new line up is SD FILES, for fans of the unexplained. Hosted by Schmidty and Zohner, the discussions range over all things paranormal, metaphysical, crypto-zoological and otherwise strange. Produced by the same team who create Krypton Radio’s popular award-nominated tech show STOLEN DROIDS, SD Files offers insightful, occasionally irreverent, and always fun programming. Airs Sunday at 2 p.m. and 2 a.m. PST.

Krypton Radio’s Turnbow commented, “With this new programming, we’re expanding our audience reach in support of our mission: to bring the geek world together for an inventive and inspiring conversation, helping the creatives of the geek world get the wild and exciting things they make out to their audiences, and to help the fans find all this great stuff. I’m so proud of my team. This is an amazing time for us, and it’s only going to get better from here.”

Airing online around the clock and around the world, the award winning Krypton Radio is the most popular geek radio station on the planet, with listeners in 139 countries. Fusing ideas from science fiction, comics and fantasy fandom, KR features music from TV shows, games, movies and the fans themselves, in addition to talk shows, thrilling adventure serials, and news of interest to the fannish world.

Krypton Radio was funded in 2009, by movie industry veterans Gene Turnbow, Susan Fox and a small group of friends who wanted a sci-fi radio station but couldn’t find one – so they created it themselves. Krypton Radio has marched to (and played) a different beat ever since, one defined by the fans themselves. Free player apps make it accessible on every mobile device.
